Insurance has been implementing cutting edge technology slowly but steadily. The industry has been cognizant over the European and North American regions (e.g. New York based Lemonade, arguably the most notable insurance disruptor out there, who recently filed for IPO), however, things are shaking up in Asia as well. Singapore’s insurtech landscape boasts GoBear, SME-focused PolicyPal, or premium life insurer SingLife. China’s Ping An has been leveraging AI, IoT and cloud, having obtained over 500 million internet users. India’s Paytm and PolicyBazaar have been successful in introducing affordable insurance plans for the unserved and underserved. Hong Kong hasn’t been too far behind, with the likes of Bowtie, ZA Insure and Avo being granted virtual licenses, while OneDegree has chosen a different angle, insuring pets in a digital-only approach. What are the megatrends that will determine how InsurTech’s trajectory will look like?
