This competition offered a unique global platform for fintech companies from all around the world to showcase their talent, attract investment and develop business opportunities. Congratulations to the winner - sync. from UK - billed as the world’s first smart bank which can synchronise different financial accounts in one app. Sync. won up to US$500,000 investment commitment from Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, Stan Group, Soul Capital and T12M Ventures, a US$20,000 cash price plus priceless meetings with top investors. In addition, as the winner of FintechHK Global Competition, Sync. automatically entered the Elevator Pitch Competition hosted by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks on 8 November 2019 and also the JUMPSTARTER Global Pitch Competition grand finale in February 2020.
The FintechHK Global Competition final was the culmination of a competition that started earlier in 2019, with semi-finals taking place across six locations in North America, Europe and Asia. Other great pitches at the final came from The Block Ledger and Shenzhen Ricequant Technology from Shenzhen, Deartime and MC Online from Kuala Lumpur, British Pearl from London, Koosmik and Realkey from San Francisco Bay Area, Emperor Investments from Toronto, and Privé Technologies from Hong Kong. These are all high quality fintech companies with diverse focuses in Fintech. But these finalists do share one thing in common that they all intend to use Hong Kong as a launch pad to further expand into Mainland China, regionally and globally.
The judging panel illustrated the vibrancy of the Hong Kong investor network by bringing together a new generation of local fintech investors, venture capitalists, and major corporate venture investor. Their nod of approval offered not only investment money, but also potential business collaboration opportunity and major corporate endorsement.
