Dr. Frederic Lau is the Executive Director and President of AMTD Digital. Dr. Lau has over 30 years’ of experience in regulating and managing financial institutions, especially in areas such as industry development, regulatory framework, risk management, and internal control. Dr. Lau is also the vice chairman of our Controlling Shareholder. Dr. Lau is the director of the Airstar Bank from July 2018 to October 2020, and served as the founding chief executive since the banking license was granted in May 2019 to October 2020. Dr. Lau served in Hong Kong and U.S. regulatory agencies for years, including the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Office of Thrift Supervision (subsequently merged with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, OCC) of the U.S. Treasury Department.

Dr. Lau was an executive director and group risk director at Dah Sing Banking Group, and a member of the board of directors of Dah Sing Bank from 2005 to 2011. Dr. Lau was also a member of board of directors of Shenzhen Development Bank (subsequently renamed as Ping An Bank) from 2011 to 2014. He was a managing director of Promontory Financial Group from 2011 to 2014. Dr. Lau received a Ph.D. degree in business management from University of South Australia in 2004.

Herman is the Head of Digital Banking for Hang Seng Bank and is responsible for the digital business of the Bank’s Wealth and Personal Banking, which includes the overall sales & propositions, customer engagement, strategy of digital innovation, transformation and fintech development, digital product and platform development, data and analytics, as well as daily operation.

He is a seasoned Digital and Technology executive with extensive corporate and entrepreneurial experience in both the United States and Greater China / Asia region. His areas of expertise include digital business start-ups, financial and operations management, consulting, business development and digital marketing, mergers and acquisitions, and vendor management.

He has an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University, and an MBA from Butler University.

As Head of Fintech at InvestHK, the department of the Hong Kong SAR Government responsible for attracting Foreign Direct Investment, King’s mission is to foster a more vibrant fintech ecosystem in Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area (GBA) where King has the privilege to work closely with major fintech stakeholders – leading financial services institutions, fintech companies, accelerators, innovation labs, investors, regulators, universities, etc.  In another complementary role, King also serves as Visiting Lecturer in Fintech at Institute for China Business (中国商学院) of The University of Hong Kong in China in which King has extraordinary exposure to Mainland China fintech and financial services executives.

Prior to his Fintech immersion, King’s tech entrepreneurial career included his role as angel investor in startups involving artificial intelligence, Big Data and Insurtech; founder of a data management platform and lead generation startup funded by Credit Suisse; transformed Datatrade from a traditional direct marketing agency into a multiple awards winning CRM and loyalty marketing agency.

Recognized for his industry domain experience, King has been invited to serve in leadership roles at Fintech Association Hong Kong (Insurtech Committee), The Marketing Society Asia, [Digital-Direct] Marketing Association, Asia America Multi-technology Association, Young Entrepreneurs Development Council, etc.

Prior to his entrepreneurial career, King was a management consultant in strategy, operation and information technology with Booz Allen Hamilton and KPMG Consulting in USA and UK. King was also in technology investment as a venture capitalist at Innovate@ (a tech fund co-managed by Booz Allen Hamilton & Lehman Brothers in USA).

King Leung holds an MBA (Hons) in Finance and Strategy from University of Chicago, and BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Michael is Head of Digital product and part of the founding team at WeLab Bank – Hong Kong’s homegrown virtual bank and a wholly owned subsidiary of WeLab Holdings Limited, a leading fintech company in Asia. WeLab Bank represents a 100% digital banking experience that is simple intuitive and built around customers.

Michael leads cross-functional teams that build the bank's products from ground up to create delightful user experiences and solve customers’ banking pain points. He is responsible for implementing overall product strategy to drive user engagement and market share.

Prior to joining WeLab, Michael spent over 10 years in foreign exchange, building and managing electronic businesses at leading regional and global financial institutions.
