WomenX Biotech
Hong Kong, China
Dr. Pui-Wah Choi is a pioneering scientist and entrepreneur committed to transforming women’s health through innovative biotechnology. After completing her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, she founded WomenX Biotech Limited in Hong Kong, focusing on groundbreaking health solutions designed specifically for women. WomenX aims to revolutionize disease screening with PadX-HPV, a sanitary pad that detects HPV—the primary cause of cervical cancer—from menstrual blood. This non-invasive technology seeks to increase HPV screening rates across Asia from a mere 30% to an ambitious 80%, addressing cultural barriers and busy schedules that often hinder women's access to essential health services. The potential of WomenX’s pads extends beyond HPV detection; they are also designed to monitor reproductive health, fertility, and microbiome status, offering a holistic approach to women’s health management. This innovation empowers women to better understand their bodies and make informed health decisions. Dr. Choi established the only sanitary pad production line in Hong Kong and launched the LA ROSÉE brand in July 2022, receiving positive feedback from consumers. Notably, in January 2025, WomenX introduced PadX-HPV, the first non-invasive product in Hong Kong that detects HPV types linked to cervical cancer directly from menstrual blood through a sanitary pad. With an accuracy rate of 99.2%, PadX-HPV is now available to all women in Hong Kong at Manning's Pharmacies. Since its launch, PadX has been in high demand, selling out multiple times. In addition to her focus on technological advancement, Dr. Choi is deeply committed to social impact and empowering women. WomenX’s outreach campaigns offer non-invasive HPV testing to women from low-income and diverse cultural backgrounds, helping these vulnerable groups improve their health and well-being. WomenX also runs a social impact program that creates 80 job opportunities for low-income women in Hong Kong to produce another innovative product, pantylinerX, which is made from blueberry and helps detect the risk of vaginal infections. With her dedication to using medical technology to improve women’s health, Dr. Choi has received numerous accolades, including the AIA Cre8 Innovation Award, the Zurich Innovation Championship in Malaysia, and first runner-up in the MSD Health Innovation competition. She was also recognized as the winner of She Loves Tech HK & Macau, Tatler Front and Female 2024, GenT 2025, and named one of Jessica's Most Successful Women: Advocates for Gender Health Empowerment. Additionally, she won the Innovation Award and People’s Choice Award at Standard Chartered Bank's Now & Next Challenge.
